Abbreviations

ch- chain

sc- single crochet

dc – double crochet

sl sl – slip stitch

rep- repeat

Materials Needed

Yarn: left over yarn, in this pattern I combined two yarns: Stylecraft Special DK green, 100g and the Butterfly Chunky blue

Hook: 5.5mm

Measurement: small coaster: diameter: 6 inches

large coaster diameter: 8inches

which yarn is good for a crochet flower coaster?

From my experience, 100% cotton is the best yarn for coasters. I have found the to be easy to clean, very absorbent and heat resistant. I have found that acrylic yarn works well too.

Instructions for large crochet flower coaster

ch 4, join to form a circle,

R1: ch 3 (counts as dc) work 14 dc into circle, sl st to join (15dc),

R2: ch3, work 2dc into each dc, sl st to join (30dc)

R3: ch3, *work 2dc in next dc, dc in next dc*, rep from * to * around, sl st to join (45dc),

to form the petals, work as follows

R4: *ch 5 sk next 4 dc, sc in next st* end with sl st (9 loops)

R5: work 12 dc into the ch 5 loop, sl st in next sc,* rep around,

weave in ends.

Instructions for small flower coaster

ch 4, join to form a circle,

R1: ch 3 (counts as dc) work 14 dc into circle, sl st to join (15dc),

R2: ch3, work 2dc into each dc, sl st to join (30dc)

work petals as follows

R3: *ch 5 sk next 4 dc, sc in next st* end with sl st (6 loops)

R5: work 12 dc into the ch 5 loop, sl st in next sc,* rep around,

weave in ends.
