Today’s post features the classic granny stitch blanket. I love this quick stitch that even the beginner can learn easily.
Worked in rows, back and forth, this blanket works up quickly and can be customised to fit your desires.
Materials
Yarn: Jarol Sweet Brier DK,70% acrylic and 30% wool in clover shade and
Stylecraft Special DK cream shade, 100% acrylic, 2 balls of each colour.
Hook : 5.5mm
Finished measurements: 43 X 40 inches
Notes
- This pattern works in multiples of 3
- To make this blanket smaller or bigger, chain fewer/more foundation chains.
- Keep in mind that if you make it bigger, more yarn will be required
- Stripes are created by working two rows in each colour.
Instructions to make the classic granny stitch blanket
Ch 123
R1: work 3 dc in 4th ch from hook,* sk next 2 ch, 3 dc in nxt ch* rep from * to last 3 ch, sk nxt 2ch, dc in last ch. Ch 2, turn. At the end of the row you should have something like this.
R2: ch 2 counts as dc, 2dc in sp between 1st dc and cluster of 3dc, * 3 dc between next cluster of 3 dc , rep from * to beg 3 skipped cha, 3dc in sp formed by beg 3 sk ch. Ch 2 turn
R3: sk nxt 3dc, work 3dc between next two 3 dc cluster or group, rep from * to turning ch 2, dc in 2nd ch of turning ch 2, turn.
R4: work 2 dc between 1st dc and next 3 dc group, * 3 dc between cluster of 3 dc, rep from * to turning ch 2, 3 dc in sp formed by turning ch 2, ch 2, turn.
Rep R3 and R4 till blanket measures 40 inches or till desired length is attained.
Edging
R1: Work dc around, at every corner work 3 dcs, rep around. Ch1 turn.
Weave in ends.
