You can’t blame me, they are so versatile, most require one ball of yarn, they knit up quick and can make a fashion statement!

This Autumn basket weave knit cowl pattern uses a variation of the famous knit basket weave. It is also known as the checkerboard stitch.

Notes

This pattern assumes that you are already aware of the knit and purl stitches.

This stitch is worked in 4s. 4 knit and then 4 purl stitches worked for 12 rows, and then alternated in the next 12 rows, making it a reversible cowl.

I added a selvedge stich to create a presentable edge as I did not want to work an edging for it.

To customise it you can work in 5s or 3s and then work it for 5 or 3 rows. You can also crochet a cute edging as desired.

Knit loosely so that the cowl has a nice drape around the neck.

Yarn alternatives

Any 100g of 100% wool would be a great substitute.

Although it is worth mentioning that any yarn would work fine, just consider that it will be worn on your neck (skin contact) and a soft, yarn would therefore be preferred.
